Wicker phonograph

Post by phonophan79 »

I'm not a big fan, but these have been of discussion in the past so I just thought I'd share... a wicker phonograph from craigslist.

Is that the same model Brad has?
It's a nice machine, but oh boy...the price!

Interesting machine, but like Shane mentioned—rather pricey. With the wicker cabinet do you hear more surface noise than with a wood cabinet?

Waldorf is an expensive and upper class area around DC. It doesn't surprise me it is pricey. Wicker types do not sell that well. Intertique.com has one for sale for years on his website and it still hasn't sold.

Not the same as mine, but close. I have never seen identical wicker phonographs, every one has been different. I have probably come across 7 or 8 in my time.

All the Heywood Wakefield phonos (that I have seen anyway) all have the same works installed (Perfektone).

As to price, the one on CL is fairly priced based upon my experience. I won the fourth one I saw at auction, and all went for around this money. I consider myself lucky in that mine is in perfekt :) condition, no wicker damage.

Some folks like these, others hate them. It's all personal choice.

Here is a picture of mine:

Well, there's no accounting for taste, and I would be the last person to denigrate these examples, but IMO Heywood-Wakefield should have stuck to furniture and railroad car seating, their core business.

that one down by DC looks really good, but I'm in agreement that the price seems over the top... and it's twice or more the cost of the few that I've seen at estate sales over the past eight years. the other one above from the midwest seems much more reasonable.
