Why do some U Tube pieces play and others pause a lot?

Post by larryh »

Hello all,

Just listened to Franks nice record of Londonderry Air. It played all the way though without pausing. For some reason most of the others I get constant long pauses and you just can't get though them. Any ideas as why some work well and others don't?

Larry,

I have the same problem, though not as severely as you. The red buffer will often move slowly and the video will catch up with it and pause. On occasion the buffer will barely budge. I assume that these are Youtube glitches over which we have no control. When I'm unable to watch a video, I come back to it later and it will play. If the red buffer is moving slowly, I pause the video and allow the buffer some time to move far enough ahead so that the video does not catch up with it.

It was due largely to the chronic pausing of Youtube videos that I switched from dial-up to DSL two years ago. Now the problem is back, though not nearly as bad.

I've found that refreshing the page will help in many cases, but it has become a frequent problem for me over the last 2 month. I hardly watch youtube anymore because it gets on my nerves :)

I am using what ever the latest updates from apple would be that is all I keep installed is things I get from them. I would think that they update the quick time player frequently which I am guessing is my way of getting those?

Larry could it be band width related? I've experienced this problem usually from poor wireless connections when I am travelling for business or at home when I've got multiple users on the network. I also experience this when trying to watch Youtube at the same time as I am uploading. Supposedly I have an 8M download speed and 500kb up whatever that means. :monkey:

Yes, I am having that same problem with youtube posts that I recently posted of videos of my machines playing cylinders and 78s. They will be listenable for only a undetermined time, and then stop while the little icon swirls, and the start from there for a while and stop again, frustrating. WHY????
What I have noticed, however, is posts that I put on youtube a more distant time ago are okay, not that problem, so does it maybe have a time factor, as the editing and some of the other problems when newly posted that one will experience??? Maybe time cures the probably after a post is up for a few months. You think????
