From what I've found Blue Amberols seem to sound the worst out of all the cylinder types. To be more specific, the post 1915 Edison cylinders which were dubbed from Diamond Discs seem to just sound muddy and not well recorded. However, I am keen on playing a good condition Edison black wax cylinder any day.

Why particularly cylinders and not 78s?

The material is generally far less palatable than that on the discs I typically play. To generalize, perhaps unfairly, hokey vs jazzy.

I have a little over 200 Blue Amberols..and more than 200 Albany Indestructibles and about 50 WAX 2M Edisons All in nice, playable shape..

I think that there are many collectors on here that have over 1000 BA's ...especially if they are Dealers..

PS: The Poll apparently got screwed up since only 2 people repsonded and it did not work when I tried to do the poll.

Thousands of Blue Amberols. I have enjoyed collecting and playing all types of cylinders including Blue Amberols for many years. Cylinders and cylinder technology are an oddity to me relative to disc records and that's part of the appeal. I have hundreds of Berliner records and loads of other very early disc records and appreciate all of them. But somehow the disc records, in general, don't possess the weird 'oddity' appeal that cylinders seem to have. Again, that's me. :)
