Ohhh no, no!! Is that a fumed oak finish that got ruined?! It sure looks like it. Does anyone out there know how to restore something like this?

I think it would just be a matter of experimenting with different stains & finishes.
I'd aim at matching the basic colour & then dilute the stain until you got a good colour match.
Then you'd have to try shellac & laquers to see what worked best for the overall effect, followed by a few coats of wax perhaps.
I dont think that Victor would be too hard to put right.

I've been working on a Rexonola the last couple weeks that had been eaten by white ant & was falling apart.
I had to keep the original finish where the decal is, but I've managed to make a near perfect match of the original finish.
Here's a pic I took while I was experimenting with stain colours & strengths.
For this one I used mostly walnut stain mixed with black, then diluted it heaps.
I'm hoping to finish the machine in the next couple weeks, so I'll probably do a spot light on it eventually.
