My 1st Home Recording!

I finally had time to try some recording this morning on my Edison Standard B. I am singing and playing guitar into the 10 panel horn. Volume is a bit low but, Im still learning. Congratulations! I had not heard anything
for a while about your recording project. Nothing much
since you got the shaver working.

The regular stock Edison 10-panel morning glory
horn works sort of ok for certain recording situations.

to the live recordings I made of the Illinois 33rd
Regiment Volunteer marching band. That is a civil war
reenactment band. They use real period instruments!

For all of those recordings, the cylinder machine
was placed on a table up front in a small auditorium.
The band was up in front. They were not crowded
around the horn by me as they would have been had
I had the opportunity to do so. This was a regular
public performance.

I recorded all of those cylinders using the the
Edison Standard 10-panel morning glory horn.

Anyway, yes, the 10-panel horn does work, but with
certain limitations. For close work, it tends to
sound a bit muffled and far away. It's ok though
in a large room, somewhat far away from the source.

Again, nice work and keep experimenting!

Thanks for the tips Chuck! I have been working out of town for a couple of weeks so, this was the first day Ive had to play with it. Do you find that the type of wax blank used has anything to do with the volume? This was a new blank. Ive got an original brown wax blank that I want to try also.

I think it came out great! The quality of the sound is quite good. How low is the volume, exactly? Hard to tell from the video as it sounds like the same volume as your announcement.

Speaking of announcements- you should announce the selection you are about to play right on the start of the cylinder like they used to on a lot of these old recordings, IMO.

Here is my 2nd recording done today. This is a song from the 1965 movie A Pistol for Ringo. It is called The Funeral and you may recognize it from the movie American Sniper. It was played at the end of the movie during the credits.
I had the song on my iphone and I used a Bluetooth speaker that I placed inside the 10 panel horn.
