victor credenza lid support/dashpot issue

Post by brianu »

a few months ago I moved my credenza into the new apartment, where the air tends to be on the dry side, and the very dry side in the winter (whether or not I'm using much heat). all was fine until a couple of days ago, when I noticed that the lid was no longer closing nearly as gently as it originally had been - basically, it was lowering itself properly when I brought it here, but now it's almost as though it's not self-closing at all. can dry air affect the dashpots, such that they need readjustment of some sort? if so, would anyone have any suggestions (aside from getting a humidifier)?

thanks.

Hello Brian, all you need to do is put some Neetsfoot Oil in the dashpots and work it back and forth, the leather is probaly shrunk due to the cold/dry air,
