VV-IV tone arm - material & finish

Post by ldelin »

I just bought a VV-IV that has a coat of burgundy paint on the tone arm. I'm wondering what material the arm is made of; and what finish it had originally before I go about removing the paint. I expect there was a problem with the original finish that the paint was used to cover. I know this was a very inexpensive machine when purchased originally, and I'm wondering if it was nickel plated steel like most others I've seen; or something cheaper.

I don't have a IV, but the ones I recall having seen had nickle plated hardware. The paint is certainly inappropriate.

The Victrola IV tone arm is made of brass with a nickel plate finish.
