Bought a Berliner Record

Post by Edisonfan »

Okay, well we all know about Berliner, and his contribution to the recording industry. I bought a Berliner Record today. 102 Dixie: Sousa's Band April 7,1898. I paid $125.00 from an antique store here in Frederick. This is the most I have paid for any record, but it was well worth it. Since these records are rare to begin with. I did play this record on my Victrola, and it sounded pretty good, considering it's age. I consider this my "Holy Grail of antique records" I am keeping this in my glass cabinet, that is on top of my bookcase in my living room.

Since the label is etched onto the disc, you would only see a black disc, if I tried to scan the record. But, I figured most of you have seen one, anyway.

Congrats on a great addition!

If you haven't done so yet, take a nice video of it playing, or better yet, if you have access to the equipment to digitize it then it may be a good idea. Then you can display it and never worry about breaking it but at the same time have a recording of that actual record on hand.

I do not have a portable video camera. The only one I have is built into my mac, which is a desktop computer. Some point I will though. Unfortunately, I have not set up my computer, for digital transfer.

Boy, this video has gotten 66 views, since I posted it. I guess a lot of people enjoy it. BTW: this will probably be the only time, anyone will get to hear it. Because of it's age, and it's fragile.
