This is my second two-sided mold and the results are mixed. The "good side" (Anything but love) came out great. The label on that side was missing so it was possible to mold over it, capturing the disc #. The other side (King for a day) also has a much smoother label cover than my first mold.
The King for a day side has a flaw in the mold where an elevated area (.05" high) comes up to, but not into, the first groove).
Microscopic air bubbles are still an issue in the groove area, giving the copy a "crackle" in spots. Air bubbles are also visible in the casting. To address this, I've ordered a pressure chamber ($$!$) to eliminate all air bubbles. This will result in much higher quality reproductions, and significantly less room to walk in my basement laboratory...
A huge thanks to the Marcapra (Marc) who loaned me this (and another) disc!

Yes, but if you wait until after the pressure chamber arrives, you'll get a much higher quality disc.JAR wrote:Can I buy one.

Hi,
Your approach to getting rid of the air is a good step but I thought that what I saw as a young engineer would be of interest. In about 1969 I was assigned to help the fuel cells department of what was The Naval Ship Research And Development Center in Annapolis (it change names many times from 1964 Marine Engineering Center to a division of The Naval Surface Warfare Center before closing in 1999 or 2000). We tested the fuel cells to determine performance at pressures up to 15,000 pounds per square inch. A problem was that any voids (air bubbles) in the non conducting plastic encasing items like the wire connections for the thermocouple, battery leads etc. at these pressures would implode. The implosions might cause an electrical short or damage equipment causing the experiment to fail $$$. To avoid this problem the liquid plastic and equipment was put in a vacuum chamber and a vacuum pump pulled the air out of the chamber causing the air bubbles to expand come to the upper surface and burst. If there were still small bubbles in the liquid plastic they would become infinitely small when the items came up to atmospheric pressure. now the liquid plastic could be heat cured to a hard mass. At that time the Navy was looking at the fuel cells to be located out side the pressure hull of a submarine because their performance improved with pressure. I realize that this might be an expensive route but should insure the problem to go away.

When you get the air bubbles worked out, I would like to buy a copy of I can't give you anything but love.
Have a great evening,

Hey everyone,
Thanks for your continued interest! I can't believe it's only been ten days since my last update. I've been working like a mad man and am excited to have the video update below to show how much further I've moved my DD copy process. In the video below you'll first see the disc from ten days ago held up to the window, followed by the new pressure cast disc. These not only look clearer but also play great, as youl can also see (and hear
) in the video...

As you can imagine, this has been an incredibly expensive endeavor and any orders would be greatly appreciated. They're $30 plus $6 shipping in the USA. If you have rare or extremely old 78's or DD's that you would be willing to loan me, that would also be appreciated. Just message me for details.
