Just Bought A Puck

Post by SonnyPhono »

I just bought a Puck today. I don't know much about them but thought the price was reasonable. (I think!) I just thought I would post a few pictures so I could get any feedback/information on the model, rarity etc.

Any comments are welcomed and appreciated!

It's what Edison Bell marketed as "the 20th Century" & sold for 12/6. I believe they were later given away when you purchased 6 cylinders. They were made in Germany I think?? and would have been sold (or given away) by quite a few companies. They're probably the most common puck around, next to the mermaid model.
It should have a wire frame that comes up beside the motor to "hang" the horn on when not in use, but they're often missing.
Still a great machine to have- provided it's not one of the 1970s reproductions.

Could you make out a manufacturer's brand?

Interesting horn.

I wonder if the cylinders sound "tinny." :P

Great piece and in excellent condition for its age! Look forward to further pictures.

the ROMFI.com site has a number of different models, but all told there must have been dozens more different models, and even within 1 model different variations, e.g. in color-schemes.

http://www.romfi.com/ then follow this: Music Reproduction > Phonograph-Cylinder > Puck Phonographs
(sorry, trying to link it direct does not function - or I'm doing something wrong)

Look at the last one on the list- it shows an ad for a puck called "concertophone". Obviously a bit of advertising liberty
