Re: “Q” Graphophone Questionnaire
Thank you, Menophanes and OrthoSean, for your contributions.
UPDATE 12-10-2018:
I've edited question #9 to reflect the addition of the Paris 1900 Award on the rear lid decal. And, for anyone who may have seen the earliest version of our post, we no longer believe that 8 cities was typical for the mandrel end-tag, so I dropped the "8 is typical" notation.
We're sorry for any confusion we may have caused, and kindly thank y'all for your participation!
Happiest of Holidays,
Fran

Re: “Q” Graphophone Questionnaire
That's great, Neil, thank you. What we meant was whether or not there's a lip on both sides of where the belt rides on the mandrel.
Here's a photo of the earlier mandrel with flange: And a photo of the later mandrel without the flange: Best regards,
Fran

Re: “Q” Graphophone Questionnaire
Are you including the Busy Bee Columbia Qs, or is this limited to Columbia branded machines? I have both, and I will provide the information on the Columbia branded Q this weekend. Cool project either way.

Re: “Q” Graphophone Questionnaire
1) What is your Q’s base type? Painted cast.
2) What is your Q’s serial number? 1,065,227
3) What type of governor support is used at its end (opposite the motor)? Bracket.
4) What is the last date stamped on the end stanchion? Aug. 20, 1901.
5) If your Q has a mandrel tag, how many cities are listed on it? No tag.
6) Does your mandrel have a flange for the belt to ride inside? No.
7) Does your drive pulley have a flat end, or one with a channel? Channel.
8) IF CASED, which type banner decal is on the front of the lid? It is not cased, but is mounted on a beveled wooden base.
I'll note that the serial number of mine, 1,065,227, is beyond the SN# range Hezelcorn lists in his Phonograph Companion; (his high range ends at 1,065,180). Also mine is mounted on a wooden base that appears to be old, but has no holes for a lid.
