How to open these sitting barrels?

Post by Inigo »

I've seen that I'll have to disassemble and clean the motor of my new French HMV style III tabletop. But after inspecting the spring barrels, I didn't figure out how can these be opened.

They don't seem to have any hole for inserting a tool, nor screws. It's the pre-1921 two spring motor with the sloped regulator, etc.
Any kind soul could give me a clue?
Any of these afternoons I will start with it. But most urgent is to clean the springs and to find the sweet spot at the governor. It's a bit noisy.
