Seems a very nice and rare machine. Not commonly seen.. But they have installed an Exhibition soundbox on it. Surely it carried a pot metal diaphragm that has dead.
The price seems high to me...

Re: Sonora portable in Spain EUR 400
You'll lose any advantage you might have had when playing electrically recorded records with the replacement Exhibition sound box, but with that very short horn--really it's just a pocket--it probably wouldn't make that much of a difference in terms of overall sound quality.
I realize that this type of portable may not come up for sale very often in Spain, but I think that 400-Euros ($450.00 USD) is WAY too much. From what I've tracked, lower end portables of this type, in the US market, normally sell for $50-$75, depending on condition.

Yes. It's a provincial seller... Those usually charge surprisingly high price. A dealer from Barcelona or Madrid would have asked 100 eur or so...

By the way, that's a Sonora No. 1 portable, original price $25.00, circa 1927:Inigo wrote:Yes. It's a provincial seller... Those usually charge surprisingly high price. A dealer from Barcelona or Madrid would have asked 100 eur or so...
