Bunny Berigan playing Mahogany Hall Stomp 1937

Post by melvind »

I thought with the last question about big band music I would include this video of a great 1937 record. The difference between this record and records 5 or 10 years earlier is quite stark. Not quite all the way to the 1940s, but getting really close. By 1937 many people would have listened on electrical phonos, but also many on acoustic machines. This record is amazing on my Credenza.

Bunny has always been one of my favorite big bands since I heard I Can't Get Started way back in the early 70s. Too bad he died so early.

Fantastic band, fantastic leader, great video as usual. I need to find time to post more of my visually boring YT videos. Do you happen to have the Brunswick version of "Let's do It" or a copy of "Frankie and Johnny" on Victor?
"He who dies with the most shellac wins"- some nutty record geek

No I don't have either, but they would be fun to post if I did!
