Good stripper

Post by RSStone »

Ran across this recipe while working at a woodshop a few years ago, thought I'd share because this stuff will strip finish quick and easy and will even strip stain if you scrub too hard. Is 2 parts Acetone, 1 part Xylene and 1 part MEK... DISCLAIMER!!! - Don't smoke and no open flames, keep things well ventilated, if you like smooth soft hands make sure you wear gloves, maybe a mask and definitely eye protection in case of splash or splatter... Work one area at a time, I use cheap 2 for a dollar brushes and apply in one direction repeating until I get down to stain. After I finish a piece, I wipe it down really well with a rag soaked in paint thinner/mineral spirits, 2 or 3 times to get rid of any residue and then I let dry for at least 24 hours.

This stuff is Very Potent, use at your own discretion, THIS is old school stripper and would probably be banned in California :D :D !!

If it's banned in California, that's an endorsement in my book.

Oh, it was probably innocent enough, George; it involved Gypsy Rose Lee and Lily St. Cyr

Ahhh, o'kay... Well, never let that worry enter your mind with me, thick skinned and pretty much impervious to any kind of hurt feelings or offense :D :D I was always a little more into the pin-ups personally...

Acetone itself is potent stuff...MEK even more so!

I was stripping metal on an antique electric heater--the "parabolic" type shortly after the "luminous radiator" era. The stripper I used was Citri-Strip but acetone attacked the old nitro paint like it was nothing. It also blew up when I tried to dispose of the rags--and that's how I know it was good stuff!
