Need help ID and any info

Post by SRukke »

I could use some help with the ID of this machine. No name that I can find. Has a Thorens motor assembly. I assume the crank handle is not original? I also need a spring for it as it winds part way then skips internally. Any way to ID a motor model number or size by the pic? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

This Thorens page from a 1927 trade supplier's catalogue may help to identify your motor.

The "Console" or "Horizontal Grand" with barley twist legs, such as the Alba pictured below, is typically mid 1920's British. The style was short lived, and is unpopular with today's collectors because of the floor space which it occupies. Many of the un-named machines such as yours were made by or for furniture shops, and fitted with bought in mechanical components. Thorens were major suppliers of components to the trade.
