Wow! an 1897 MODEL!!

That does it. As soon as I finish buying the Reel To Reel tape deck I want, I’m saving up for an 1890s machine!! That’s my 2020 goal!

On a full wind it must have ran for a good 8 minutes, the fault in the motor lay in the locking pin within the main winding gear, this had been sheared off inside, a new pin, a bit of oil and a belt and she coughed into life, is's a bit rattly still, but I think it can be forgiven for now, being 122 years old and having spent much of it's life likely in a shed, once I've got all the parts and the mandrel is repaired I'll do some fine tuning on the motor.

I've cleaned the bed plate and the finish isn't good, all the clear coat has gone, as well as all the pin striping leaving only the black undercoat, so I reckon I'll have to repaint the bedplate and re-do the pin striping, though the cabinet has shined up, leaving the stains behind, but I like that

How long did it take for you to take it apart, get the mandrel unstuck, and put it back together??

Old-timer brought back to life. FANTASTIC! Put any modern electronics in a shed for 122 years and see how long that might take to bring back to life!

Solved the mandrel issue, I carefully got the shaft out, unsoldered the end of the mandrel, carefully hammered the worst of the denting out then made a tapered former to fit inside the mandrel and help bring it closer to its original shape, as you can see, it’s fit for purpose again, now to find a carriage and a lid!
