Horns aplenty

Last week we pick up a Columbia Regent from Mason, MI. While we were there, the seller mentioned that his late Uncle had some other parts they wanted to sell. We are now the proud owners of over 100 phonograph horns, a Victrola XII and an early Amberola VI (both needing major restoration).We did the 750 mile round trip today. I will post better pictures once they are unloaded and spread out.

Thanks. I'm kind of thinking about moving away from brass to something that doesn't tarnish or show dents quite so badly

I will say, the Victor spear horn is in very poor condition. As soon as everything is unloaded, I will send you detailed pictures.

That's a whole lot of horns!
I can't imagine hording so many horns and having them stacked up and silent for goodness knows how long.

Even if you kept a couple Victor's, Columbia disc and cylinder horns, the best Edison of every size, and a few of the best and most unusual ones, that would still leave an awful lot of horns with the potential to complete other machines.
It really is a great haul.

But I have been looking for some rusty horns to make paper horns out of. Do you have the big searchlight horn? I can see one in the pictures but I can't tell if it is the big one?

Also I see a cygnet horn there...... I don't have one for my edison home!

I guess while everyone's posting their requests, I'll through one out there too.

If you come across any decorated horns with original paint, even in really poor condition, it's be great to see photos of them.

Often if they look daggy on a machine, people spruce them up with a fresh coat of paint, so it can be hard finding an accurate reference to exactly what colours were used, the type of decoration or the amount of shading etc that was originally on them.

I think it'd be a great reference for anyone wanting to do a more accurate restoration to their own horns that either have no paint left on them or have been repainted several times.

It just a thought anyway

I got a little excited seeing what appeared to be a white gem horn with a decal in your second photo, but zooming in it looks like it might have originally been a red gem horn that somebody painted white and painted around the decal.
