These shields are something of a mystery. Even the EMI archives do not contain details of their issue. It is thought that one was presented to every HMV dealer during the Coronation year 1937, but if that was the case there would have been a great many of them. The EMI Guide to Nipper Souvenirs estimates between 3000 and 4000. It seems strange, therefore, that comparatively few are found today.
