Charleston

Post by stetam »

Just picked this up off eBay with 3 other early records for $30. Anyone familiar with this group?

I am not familiar with that group. My guess is that it is an in-house group.

Many groups recorded this song as it was very popular. I have a version by the Golden Gate Orchestra which was really the California Ramblers, which was...

Lots of groups were formed for recording and then new groups were made.

Have you played the song ? If so use a "Flat" preamplifier and then determine if it was acoustic or electrically recorded. If electric it would have had to have been recorded late 1925 at the earliest.

That’s a pseudonym for Nathan Glantz and His Orchestra, recorded in May 1925. It’s an acoustic recording. Glantz was a major “studio orchestra” contractor, along the lines of Sam Lanin or Lou Gold.

That version of Charleston was used on numerous labels, I made this video a while ago showing it on five different ones, including vertical Pathé...

I have the same recording on “needle-cut” Pathé. I hosted a Halloween party last year and one of my guests wore a beautiful flapper costume so I played the record on my Victor IV and we danced the Charleston.
