Coin operated external horn machine

Post by Herderz »

I am looking for comments on this machine that I have located. It appears to be German based on the coin slot. "Einwurf 10 Pfg." Coin operated? Very old, don't know if it works or if everything is there. It looks like all of the basics are there but there are a couple of holes in the top and side. I think it would make a real nice project.

Thanks Kevin, Yeah it is the same machine. I could see it was missing something. I was just hopeful if it was a good fined in the wild for a external horn machine.

Not knowing anything other than it's an incomplete German machine undoubtedly made in small numbers, I suggest you be very very cautious.

Just my opinion...

I had considered getting this machine when it first popped up.

But its missing the mechanism that lifts the tonearm onto the record when the coin is inserted. Plus the seller was firm on her price.

As I mentioned in the parallel post:

The lifting mechanism is inside the cabinet (with helpful illustration).

I do not see the addition of an external brake on the turntable, usually a good indication that the coin op mech is still OK.

For me $350 = bargain

Just a little FYI....a lot of European "coin-op" machines were in fact designed for use on the honor system and had no actual "coin" mechanism. There can also be a little drawer at the base to remove the coins.

These were found in cafes and taverns. Used by the establishment owner as a way to generate extra money.

Herderz, since you are new to our forum, you may be unware we have a section for European and overseas machines. Here is an example I posted years ago in that section.

Here is another European example that has no coin mechanism but a coin slot.
