Hello All:
Earlier today I recognized a piece I needed attached to a Victor Exhibition reproducer being sold by forum member kendphono. It's a stop plate often separated from the Condon Autostop, an early accessory brake for Victor machines.
I bought the reproducer, and fortunately Ken lives close to me. I picked it up and it now completes my Autostop setup!
I couple members wondered about seeing how it works, and I've made a short video.
I'm posting on Dropbox for the time being and may upload it to Youtube later.
I hope you enjoy it.
Best regards, and Happy New Year.
Bob

That is so great on every level!
I saw Ken's ad earlier and was curious what it was for. That you found the ad very shortly later, and not only recognized what it was, but needed it, is amazing. And living close enough to pick it up a few hours later -- that is beyond serendipitous. And your video is clear and well presented.
Great accessory. Congratulations on completing it.

The Condon Autostop is a neat little device. Always nice to see a member of the forum be able to complete something.....well done.
Here are a few pics of mine and a poor quality video I made one Christmas. Thanks for sharing.

What a great video, and a very simple and effective device. Would it result in wear to record labels long-term, or is there a friction element in the device itself?

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! The smooth rubber discs pressing on the record label are the only points of friction. The original rubber is usually stone-hard and deteriorated and needs to be replaced.Orchorsol wrote:What a great video, and a very simple and effective device. My guess is that label wear would be minimal unless the same record was played hundreds of times!
Thanks again.

That is such a great device and I wish I had one for my Victrola. It's a wonder that Victor didn't buy the patent and sell them as an accessory.

Re: Condon Autostop Demo Video
What an interesting device and really helpful video. I had the same question about label wear, but I suppose only time would answer that question and it would depend on how quickly the rubber pads could stop the turntable.
