On eBay I've seen some Leadbelly on the Asch label from the late 1940s. If you have an electric phonograph or maybe an Orthophonic-style machine you could play those and get pretty great sound quality. The last Leadbelly records I saw were on black-label Decca, which shouldn't be too terribly expensive to acquire. Good luck on your search.
