WANTED: Half nut for Triumph

Post by Lucius1958 »

After examining the half nut on my Triumph A, I suspect the threads may be worn. Would like to find a good replacement (at least for purposes of comparison with the old one). This is a single piece, to go with the later horizontal carriage on the machine. Any leads?

Lucius,
I am in the process out of my own necessity, of producing half nuts that will work properly. The originals had a "butress" thread to them. New half nuts that are being sold today by various suppliers are using a 60 degree thread which doesn't work well in pushing the carriage forward. They are not much better than the old worn out one. It will be a few weeks until they are done so I will contact you when they are ready.

Will these new half nuts be single or twin?
My Triumph Model A, destined for the British market, has the single half nut which is showing signs of wear.

Roger.
