Steve, that makes sense now, I may just leave it the way it is, and make a "centre" thread on bit for the turn table. I'll have a look around and see if I can find the correct bit's, but I don't think the turntables are too common, at least I've never seen them on eBay.
Could you take a photo of the turntable on your VV-XIV (Type M) so I have some sort of reference when I start hunting, that would be very helpful ?
According to this, the reproducer could be correct, it was used for a few months before going to the standard Exhibition reproducer. (scroll to the bottom of the link)

Hi Jeff,
I admire your willingness to try and save this machine. It will be a true labor of love.

I believe in addition to the other issues - what you have is a replaced spindle. The "flying saucer" thingy is from an early VicTROLA motor (and some others not germane to the point) and not really appropriate for the two spring motor you have. The spindle that came with your machine is appropriate for an "L" door XVI or early XIV as pointed out by another member. Post a want ad for a center spindle for a Vic II, III, IV or V and see if you get lucky.

The reproducer is a good one but from a different machine. As mentioned and it is off an early VicTROLA IV not the Victor IV like you have in your possession, they are very different machines. You need a commonly found Victor Exhibition Reproducer.

Labour of love; I can rebuild the cabinet because I can, I spent the better part of my life restoring antique furniture.
I could fill the holes and fake the grain in, but there are so many, and they are so large, it's not worth my time to "Blendal" them in, it's easier just to replace the panels and molding as needed.

Here are pics of an early Victrola IV that was sold recently on TechnoGallerie.com - photos by Grant. This shows the early Victor "O" reproducer.

If you get this Victor IV restored and decide to sell it, replace the "O" reproducer with a later Exhibition and sell the "O" separately, since there are collectors for both, and the "O" is more valuable than an Exhibition...

Here's an eBay sale where it looks like the spindle will fit from a Victor 1; looks the same but I'm not sure.
There's probably a good chance that others here are bidding on it I'm sure.
