Victor Chippendale No. 2 - Value?

Hello all,

I have had the great fortune of acquiring a Victor Chippendale No. 2 recently. 7 years of persistent searching has finally paid off! You can check out a picture of it in the link below. That said, I could use your help. Would anyone have a ballpark estimate of value for insurance purposes? Everything about this phonograph is in perfect, working condition, and it is complete, but it does not have the albums. The finish has seen some moderate alligatoring, but it isn't too serious. Any input would be immensely appreciated.

Ver nice machine, thing is with any of these with the economy, the value isn't where it used to be, but it will come back, but in my opinion if it works and plays ok, I'd say about 700 for that one in today's market, maybe more if someone is looking for that particular model.

You are so fortunate to find such a wonderful machine. The Chippendale No. 2 is one of the Period Victrolas. It was one of the least expensive Period Victrolas at $375 when new (Victor Data Book - page 34). In nearly forty years of collecting I have never seen that model. I would estimate the value somewhere around $2000 and possibly more. If you can get the machine to Union, I will pay $2000 for it. I am interested buyer for any Period Victrola. Jerry Blais

Weather is not actually that bad where I live~ Hawaii Kai~ is the driest part of Oahu (that you would want to live in). Temp is 78-85 day and about 68-70 at night, and yes of course we are central a/c- climate controlled environment (insulated like a mainland home) & conditions overall would be better than the foothills where we originally were, because there is not the seasonal fluction of temperatures.

Although I understand what your saying, because the traditional housing in the island is not insulated, and includes these miniblind type windows called Jalousie, which are useless, and if the valley or area is prone to higher rainfall/ humidity would be inside the house as bad as outside. But we had to consider all of these factors prior to moving here, and were lucky enough to figure out a good house for the Victrola Collection as well as for paintings- and other items we have.

I have a Chinese Chippendale No. 0 which has a serial number of 502, meaning it was the second one produced. I value it at $15,000. I would value yours at least $5,000 or more.

Thank you all for the information, Bob, Nick, and Jerry especially! To those interested in it; sorry, but this one isn't going anywhere for a long, long time. Thus the request for insurance value! The serial number is 505 on this one, making it the 4th produced. Both my family and I were impressed how the decoration carried to all sides of the cabinet.

I guess the only question I have is - what were the doors in the back of the cabinet for, which don't seem to open to anything but a small shelf? Alcohol?
