Wanted : offbrand gramophone soundbox

Post by kirtley2012 »

Someone gave me this gramophone to help find it a new home, but it is in need of a soundbox, does anyone have a suitable one spare?

Cheers

I googled Condor Gramophone and very little turned up. There was one listed for sale, but it had an elongated tonearm very different from the one you have.

You'll probably want a sound box, circa 1930, fitted with an aluminum diaphragm. It would help if you posted a closeup photo of the tonearm, along with the measurement of the diameter of the tonearm's small end.

This appears to have Paillard components so a Paillard soundbox was most likely originally fitted too.

I haven't got a soundbox but it's cute. Good that they passed it along to you to get it a new home, it's a pretty nice little machine.

The design looks very similar to an old Victor Victrola 210 or 215.

Cheers Ahmed, that should do it, the Tonearm snuggly fits a hmv no.4 so if it’s around the same size then that should work

Fab, I'll post it over next time I'm at the post office.

Fun fact; that soundbox sent me to A&E, needing 4 stitches to get my hand back together  It was my own stupidity to be fair, and that's how I learned that using a Stanley knife isn't recommend for removing hardened rubber
