Looks in possibly good condition. Wrong soundbox.

It is an HMV Model 100 in Teak. The later soundbox and broken carrying handle are easy to replace, and the noisy motor is probably nothing serious. The case appears to be in good condition. This uncommon machine is well worth the effort and cost of restoration.

Thanks as always epigramophone - I have changed the thread title.

It's up to £209 at the moment, but unless someone has a spare Exhibition soundbox hanging around, getting another good one will add another £80 or £100 to that.

The bidders were not put off by the non-original soundbox. The machine sold for £443.

Good on you Steve!🤗 Couldn’t bid on this one as the seller didn’t offer international shipping…

The British Heart Foundation has benefitted and Steve has another teak machine, so a good result all round.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. Yes, another teak machine hits my collection. I do already have a teak 100 but not with the smooth case, as it is the panelled style case and us collectors being collectors, you know what it's like!.......

As for the BHF this is a charity very close to my heart (pun intended) so I'm more than happy to give generously to this good cause.

I'm still missing the following teak HMV portables if anyone has knowledge of them or indeed has one for sale:

Early equivalent to PAO type
Early equivalent to PBO type (if that exists?)
102
Any post 1940 teak portables?
