From the same person who is selling the 'EXPERT' Brush it seems.
I have never seen an EMG soundbox like this one - it has a 'lifting nob' maybe ? The 'bar' is not symetrical ?
Looks in original condition though maybe ?
Very interesting indeed !

Re: EMG Sound-box
It's an EMG "Long Bar" soundbox - quite possibly the best soundbox EMG ever made. If I didn't already have one (purchased from the Late Frank James) I'd certainly be bidding on this one!

Re: EMG Sound-box
This looks like it is an early one maybe modified from an exhibition front. Especially given the bars seem to be screwed on the front bezel rather than being a part of it.
I read the early EMG soundboxes were often primitively, but well put together almost as an “experimental” evolution as they progressed. Is this the case for fact do we know?

Oh, and that definitely looks like a motorboard lifting knob from a HMV.

Re: EMG Sound-box
That knob is an HMV part and nothing to do with it. As for it being experimental that applies to anything produced by EMG / Expert really as nothing was mass produced and everything was custom made and tuned for the customer. However this is a genuine EMG soundbox of a type which they produced possibly 100 of. In that sense its not truly experimental but more of a "production" item.leels1 wrote: Sun Jun 23, 2024 1:37 pm Oh, and that definitely looks like a motorboard lifting knob from a HMV.

Re: EMG Sound-box
I don't suppose that the metal 'rod' sticking out (as shown with the HMV part on it 'above') could be to attach the sound-box end of a counter-weight 'rod type device' could it ? (If you see what I mean ??) *Steve wrote: Sun Jun 23, 2024 3:35 pmThat knob is an HMV part and nothing to do with it. Re: EMG Sound-box
The Long Bar soundbox pictured on Chunny's website has the same rod, but there is nothing attached to it.
If Chunny reads this thread, perhaps he will be able to tell us what purpose this rod served.

Re: EMG Sound-box
The funny thing is, I've had my identical soundbox for 20 years and always assumed it was simply a lifting handle provided for ease of use.epigramophone wrote: Mon Jun 24, 2024 7:14 am The Long Bar soundbox pictured on Chunny's website has the same rod, but there is nothing attached to it.

Re: EMG Sound-box
Aha !
So, there is a possibility that it is present to allow some form of counter-weight to be attached.
Absolutely fascinating !!!
