is this just me?

Post by phonograph guy3435 »

do indestructibles sound worse than other companies like edison? most of the indestructibles ive seen and the ones i have sound pretty bad (alot of surface noise, skipping) and i wonder if theres something about them that makes that happen besides the enviorment that they are in, compared to ba's of the same age they sound pretty terrible. thanks :)

Any skipping of a good clean record is due to shrinkage of the plastic, forcing the limit pin to come in contact with the left side of the its limit. If the shrinkage is minimal, you can use the free play in the reproducer weight to your advantage. At the start of the record push the weight to the right.

I guess that shrinkage would begin to alter the stylus' ability to sit in the groove properly.

I'm very happy with the sound quality of mine.

James.

I use a clean cotton cloth (an old t shirt) and warm water with a little dish soap. Squeeze it out and wipe in the direction of the grooves. Dry it with an another cloth. :)

I did not notice any significant difference in background noise, but concerning recording I have the same impression as you when I compare Indestructibles with the early (non dubbed) Amberols. The Amberol recordings are clearer - I presume this is due to the higher recording quality that Edison achieved in comparison with the competitors of the time.

I've noticed in all my years of collecting I've noticed that Indestructibles sometimes have a hard time tracking.edisonplayer.
