Slightly O/T - The Al Bowlly London walk

Post by JHolmesesq »

Hi everyone,

For those people interested in the life of the British crooner, I attended the walk organised by the British Dance Band enthusiasts group Memory Lane to mark 70 years since the death of Al Bowlly.

It was fascinating to see the major locations in London that Al lived and worked in, unfortunately only one place is still operating as a club - the Café De Paris.

I took plenty of photos that day, and I've stuck them on a public facebook album for anyone to see, along with explanations of what I photographed. Enjoy!

The photo album is here

It looks like it would have been an enjoyable & educational excursion. Also nice to see a group of enthusiasts keeping Al Bowlly history alive. Thousands of people must walk by many of those sites everyday & not realise the significance they have to one of Englands early recording mega-stars.
Great to see the famous Savoy & Cafe De Paris as they stand today too.
I bet you had a wonderful day.

BTW: I hate to say it, but London sure looks like a depressing place to be. Hardly a tree in sight & everything's the same drab colour. I think I'll have to write a letter of complaint to old Lizzie about that ! :P
