Digital playback of cylinders

Post by mjbarnes »

The UCSB Cylinder Audio Archive is pretty interesting and searchable by instrument, music style, etc. Recordings sound scratchy -- I wonder if they should be applying filters.

Absolutely the BEST playback I have heard is Nick Dellow's setup on Youtube. I have heard the "S" sound for the first time ever on a cylinder.

If you want to try restoration of these digital recordings, check out the software and book (I wrote) at https://www.diamondcut.com/st3/.

the website x-minus.pro works too. if you click remove vocals, and then restoration under that, it does a pretty good job at removing static.
