Pink Lambert Collection at i78s.org

Post by MarkELynch »

David Giovannoni just posted a large collection of Lambert cylinders to his i78s.org website, “The Library of Historical Audio Recordings at i78s”

The site is ever increasing but at the present contains over 52,000 sides of which there are 340 pink or black Lambert cylinders.

After logging into the web site be sure to watch the How To Use video from the link in the upper right of the main screen.

i78s.org is a tremendous site! I just started exploring it. Lately I have been curious if the singer of "Henry Hudson was a bold jack tar" was the same as the singer of "Now what do you think of that?" -- which I had on a 2-minute cylinder that got broken in the 1970s. A bit of searching turned up the answer -- singer Bob Roberts. Thank you, Don G.!

What about typos on the i78s.org site? I suspect they are deliberately copying a mistake made on the record. "ORPEHUS" for ORPHEUS. But that may make searches less reliable.

With 52,000 entries there are bound to be a few typos. Thanks for pointing this out.

The i78s website has accounted for this. You can click the feedback link for each entry to offer corrections.

Look for the “Letter” icon just below the X in the upper right on the Discographical Information tab.

Give it a try.

It is also possible that the misspelling occurs on the record itself. If so, I agree that the correct spelling should be referenced.

Yow! That's a screamer.... messy data entry. Thanks to Mark Lynch and Michael Barnes for letting us know.
Yes, sometimes we put both the misspellings along with correctly spelled versions to enhance searches.
We welcome corrections submitted via the email links on the site, as Mark and Michael just did, and we try to correct them a.s.a.p., as we've just done here.
