What’s not to love about a cute colorful Maroon Gem, They have held their value amazingly well, and add some color to a collection. We have ours hiding somewhat behind some penny banks.

If you just collected Edison Gems you'd have quite a collection considering all the variants from the beginning to the end of the production run.

Beautiful E!! I noticed yours has a gear switch pull. Does your step gear slide? Or is it anchored somehow?

gsphonos wrote: Sun Jun 08, 2025 12:51 am I love all GEM’s! Here are some of mine—Drip Pan GEM, Different Model A’s, Model B, C, D, and E. I have multiple model D’s, as I found at least 3 variations of where the “D” designation is on the data plate—a little excessive, but I love them all! Also, an original Green GEM horn from New Zealand. It has the original decal on it—but it is blank—meaning it does not say GEM or Fireside.

I also have an Edison Bell GEM with a New Model Reproducer (An English version of a C reproducer) and an Edison Bell “Edisonia” GEM Type I, which is an early Edison GEM Model A, with the GEM reproducer with the Edison Bell Identification Tag covering the “GEM” decal.

Hey Mike! I know your collection very well through the pics you posted on the FB groups.
Great to see them all, as always!

This leads me to another question about the difference from the Model D to model E.

Did the model E's carry the Model D's serialization over? And if so, what number would start the Model E's? I noticed as the numbers crept into the 330xxx, forward is where the change may have happened?

Yes, the Gem has only one serial block, which would have been completed with the Model E.

I've never researched the post-May 1908 serial numbers of the Gem. You'd need to conduct a survey of Gem owners. A detailed illustrated article on the Gem appeared in the June 2023 issue of the APS magazine, but again, the serials end after May 1908.

The 2&4 minute gearing is present on the model E but the gear change knob and shaft is short. The shaft is just long enough to support and hold it in the 4 minute position. The knob and shaft is fixed in position because of it's length and can not move.

I will add mine to the post. It is a pretty machine just as the rest are. I have 2 red horns with original paint , 2 piece, and a black Gem horn. I know it isn't a Gem D, but I picked this blue Gem from the trader section years ago. It was such a pretty Gem, I just had to have it. It has a really nice paint job in a sky blue. Can anyone identify the unusual reproducer it has?

Thank you George, something to definitely look into. I'm becoming increasingly interested in diving a bit more into the history of these machines.

That blue one is great! It kinda reminds me of a darker Pathé Parissiene machine, which were typically a very light blue.

I think you must mean a Pathé Gaulois, don't you?
