I'm no expert on Diamond Discs but I think your 52484-L Happy days and lonely nights - Foxtrot (Rose, Fred Fisher) may be an electrically recorded DD. Someone else here I'm sure can back me up or negate that claim. Those are generally pretty sought after. I'm a huge proponent of Discogs.com. I know I've contributed many releases to that online database and keep my current inventory there. If you have any that are not currently on Discogs you are invited to learn the ins and outs of creating a submission and make your first sub there. Careful, some people get their panties in a twist if you do it wrong but linger for awhile and see how other folks do it. I currently have a little over 6,000 releases cataloged there and everything is pretty customizable; I have different folders for different labels, genres, groups, etc. Man, I sure would be sunk if that place ever imploded lol

52484 is indeed electrically recorded. More to the point, the overside, Me and the Man in the Moon, in my experience is a number in some demand.

Thanks for the tip about the website and the record. It's a fun learning experience!

Was there a specific before and after number where they stopped dubbing from cylinders? Or just an odd one here and there"

It's the other way 'round--Edison started dubbing the cylinders from discs after the 1914 factory fire, and from that point forward as far as I know there were no more "original" cylinder recordings. The discs, however, were all "original."

Some late cylinders were dubbed from electrically recorded discs, and those tend to be desirable. I don't know a specific cylinder number starting point, but electrical recording in the various disc series started at these numbers:

52089
80885
82351
57025 (German series)
60063 (Cuban/Spanish series)

I can say that the first five in the Royal Purple Amberol cylinder series, 29001 through 29005, all sung by tenor Alessandro Bonci, were "originals," but all the ones thereafter were dubs from disc.

Fantastic information, thank you!

I tried making a collection on Discogs, but it was slow going as I didn't write down enough to tell the specific editions apart. I think I'm still in the part of the process where I'm trying to know which titles are in the house.
