Edison C19 sadly converted to a radio.

Post by recordo »

This has turned up again on eBay. I saw it listed ages ago. Looks like it never sold as it's here again.

For readers outside Australia, STC was a company recently taken over by alcatel which stood for standard telephones and cables. I have one of their Radiograms and it is great. When I was about sixteen, one of the valves/tubes blew. The number had rubbed off the valve and I didn't know what to replace it with. I wrote them a letter and they asked me to bring the chassis and speaker in and they refurbished it for me gratis. It was a great company.

Here's the listing:

I'll save the photo to the forum later. Can't seem to do it on the iPhone right now.

I wouldn't be that sad about this conversion. C19's aren't all that rare or scarce and this was done a long time ago- and it is a GREAT conversion. Now, if it was one of those 1960's conversions where they dropped a solid state chassis into the cabinet then that would be a shame.

This is not unlike pictures I saw of a VV XVI which had been fitted with a radio in the record cabinet and an early television tube in the horn chamber. Someone must have had an attachment to a 20 or 30 year old piece of furniture to have it converted when a new radio would probably been about the same price.

Yes, I'll agree with you - it has been done well. Here's the photo:
