Your Recommendations for Polishing Nickle Plated Parts.
I know there are lots of metal polishing products to choose from in the local Wal-Mart's Automotive Department but I'm worried they might be too harsh or abrasive. I scanned through the last 9 pages of old posts in: "Tips, Tricks & Technical Info" but surprisingly found nothing. Thanks!

"Mothers", it's the best non-abrasive polish out there. I use nothing else.

I use toothpaste. Crest Cavity Protection Regular Paste works best for me. Smells good, too.

I use Simachrome available at antique shops. Besides nickle, it can be used for copper, brass, aluminum, and silver.

Well,
I see there is no single favorite.
I've heard of Mothers and Crest and I really like the idea leaving my nickel parts cavity free and a crisp minty scent. lol
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I know that all 3 will work well and be safe on the finish.

Now you can honestly advertise the condition of your Crest-polished pieces as "minty"1923VictorFan wrote: I really like the idea leaving my nickel parts cavity free and a crisp minty scent. lol

#0000 Steel wool. On Nickel and gold plated parts. Never had a problem.

I used the fine steel wool on the winding key of my XI, followed by a coat of Johnson's Paste Wax. It still looks good after ~20 years or so.SignatureSeriesOwner wrote:#0000 Steel wool. On Nickel and gold plated parts. Never had a problem.

I have generally found that the #0000 is so fine that is will completely remove any corrosion and such on the surface, yet simply glides over the plating itself. While the gold plating on the higher end models is indeed rather thin, I've never had a problem with it rubbing off.

Re: Your Recommendations for Polishing Nickle Plated Parts.
I saw a demonstration of MAAS metal polish yesterday while buying a Victor horn elbow. The elbow is made of brass and nickel-plated. This specimen had no defects except being severely oxidized. A hint of brass was beginning to show on the underside. I thought surely it would have to be buffed out and re-plated. My friendly phonograph dealer said, "Watch this" and pulled out a tube of MAAS. He smeared the paste evenly over the elbow and waited 5 minutes. Then he wiped it thoroughly with a paper towel to remove all the paste that he could. It didn't look much better. Then he said, "Okay, now watch this" and gave it a vigorous rubbing with a cotton towel. Wow! It had a nice bright satin appearance with no evidence of corrosion. The rubbing had not exposed more brass, either. I was impressed. That is the only product he uses. I Googled "MAAS polish" and saw thousands of positive reviews on Amazon.
