Help with Amberola V
Help with Amberola V
I didn't want my introduction to this forum to be on a problematic note but I recently bought an Amberola V along with its cabinet and over 150 cylinders. When I tested the machine at its location it was fine but since I have taken it home it has given me some problems. The main problem has to do with the power transfered from the spring to the fly wheel. (i think). Upon bringing the phonograph home I wound the spring went to engage the playing mechanism nothing happened. I manually turned the gears and that seemed to work, although that created a loud thud noise approximately every two seconds. This went on for about a week when the machine started not being able to play more then about 10 seconds of the record with out stalling. I should note that when a record is not played all of the gears appear to work and the player "runs" ok. I have researched that Amerbora Vs are very hard to work on and haven't been able to find any information for this problem yet. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Help with Amberola V
Sounds like the main spring either broke, or one of the governor springs are broken, and hitting the gear cover, a floppy governor spring would jam it up. Amberola Vs are complicated and best left to experts.

'Guest', in what part of the country are you? If we knew that, perhaps there is someone close by willing to look at it for you.
