There was a Cardinal phonograph profiled on this forum awhile back-- http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... w=previous

Some more photos of other models appear here -- http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... &view=next -- including one that DOES resemble a Grafonola:

Wow, Im amazed that Cardinal used Columbias louvers on at least one of their cabinets. Surely Columbia had some sort of patent on the louvers & would have sued the pants off Cardinal for using them?
Perhaps they did & is why Cardinal was around for such a brief period :?

I think, at that point in time, Columbia was no longer in any position to do anything about it:
Uncle Vanya wrote:Note that when Columbia got into deep financial trouble as a result of over-ordering cabinets in 1919-20 and slumping sales due to the 1920-21 business Depression, the receiver appointed for the firm awarded thousands of finished cabinets as payment for claims against the firm. Art case models outfitted with Otto Heinemann mechanisms are most commonly noted, but the receiver's report suggests that many of the regular line of cabinets were so released to the markets. ...

just watched the repair video, as luck would have it, it is the exact motor that I have right down to the 17 stamped on the spring barrel.

I suspected there would be a couple of pivot balls hidden in there somewhere, turns out there are three. Two on the governor and one on the spindle shaft. I would suspect if someone would have a shakey governor or too much play in the spindle they might have a ball missing.

Looks like an easy strip and lube compared to the pocketwatch I just finished refurbing but I'll probably take my head off with the springs anyway. I'm getting off topic of my original thread though. I apologize.

I guess this topic of the questionable grafonola I started has come to a conclusion for me. If I have any questions about the victrola or interesting findings I will post new topic.

Thanks to you all again. Now that I have found this website I will probably be on everyday at least to read. My wife is already jealous that I'm spending more time rubbing my hands on a victrola so I gotta go for now.
