Anyone know how to control speed on an Amberola 75 ?

Subject: Anyone know how to control speed on an Amberola 75 ?

I just lubricated/oiled my Amberola 75 the other night, and it seems like it is playing a few bars fast..

The speed of these Amberola's 30.50,75 were usually set by the factory gearing.

Any way to slow it down a notch? It seems it is working "too well"..lol..

I picked up the machine about two weeks ago and started cleaning it up.

Anyone know of any way to adjust the speed somehow?

I've had machines in the past run too slow, but never too fast! Especially a "geared" amberola..

Is there any type of speed adjustment under the bedplate that I am missing?

Thanks,

Tony K.

I believe there is a screw under the gear cover that increases or decreases the tension on the friction yoke that runs against the governor. The early types had speed controls that were fashioned by a knob that protruded through the gear cover. Hope this helps.

Locate the gear cover to the left of the cylinder mandrel, remove the two round head machine screws. Take this cover off, you will see the governor, there is an adjustment screw on the left hand side of the governor, connected with the felt pad. Turrning it down will speed the machine up, turning it up will slow the machine down. keep the cover off and adjust the machine so it is running at 160 rpm.

Having just gone through that, here is a picture showing the location of the adjustment screw (from http://www.intertique.com/AmberolaRepair.html) to go with Wes' excellent instructions.
