How do I clean and polish the bedplate on my Edison c250

Post by Confettihead »

What should I use to clean and polish this area as to not damage to paint, pinstriping and decals?

I use Fantastic to clean. Spray on, let sit for a few minutes to loosen the grime, then clean with paper towels, being very gentle around the decals and pin stripping. Another approach would be to Kotton Klenser as it is likely old wax embedded with grime that is on the bed plate.

I use soft wax and a soft cloth to polish the cleaned bed plate.

The above works well for me. Others may have different approaches that give great results too.

If you are unsure, try along the rolled edge along the back of the bedplate.

Be sure and take before and after pictures. I went through my restoration pictures and this was one step I don't have pictures of.

Good Luck.

I have gotten excellent results using Meguiar's Cleaner Wax, an automobile wax, applied with an old T-shirt. Use light pressure in decal or painted decoration areas.

Here is a recently cleaned C150 bedplate using that process. (Dark areas are reflections from the room.) I have never had any trim damage using it and the results are great.

Clay,

That looks great. Where can you find Meguiar's cleaner wax? An auto parts store? I'd like to try this stuff on my Triumph which has the dirtiest bedplate I've ever encountered on a machine.

Most any auto parts store should have it. It is a popular brand.
