Victrola Estimate ?Circassian?

Post by Eakaline »

I have had some interest in my Victrola and as I am not a collector I am willing to part with it for a model less desirable to collectors.
I have been told it is possibly Circassian walnut, but at the very least it is a unique wood grain.
This is the model and serial VV XVI 32106

I bought it at a thrift shop in the Upper East side about three years ago. It is in very good condition, but Has a broken or slipped spring. The victrola doctor said he could fix for around $120.

How much and where should I sell this. I live in the NYC area.

Thank you for your advice

I will defer to those with more knowledge on this, though I did want to mention that the unique wood grain certainly looks interesting. If you have better quality pictures you could post, that would certainly be helpful (better lighting, too).

One thing I thought was curious was that the motor is mounted on what appears to be a distinctly oak motorboard. Again, I am no expert, but I would think that the motorboard would match the wood of the case... I'm sure others with more knowledge will speak to this. :rose:

Try Ebay, Craigslist, etc.... If you want to offer the machine here.....Place it in our Yankee Trader section. Worth is what anyone offers you. Good luck.BTW, if the Victrola doctor has seen pics...he would have told you an approximate worth... ;).

Looks like photo #8 is of a different machine with a golden oak finish.
Do you have two different machines for sale?

Definitely Circassian walnut, it might be the pictures but the finish appears a bit faded.

Value - definitely has some, machines with this sort of veneer tend to be polarizing - collectors either love them or hate them.

I agree with estott that most of the pictures show an L-door Victrola XVI with a Circassian walnut finish.
I do think that the 8th photo on the picasa site shows a different L-door Victrola XVI with a golden oak finish.

They are all the same machine. Photo #8 has a different exposure, but if you look at the grain especially on the pull out shelf, you'll see it's the same machine.

Thank you for your input, and sorry for the lousy pictures . Yes, there is just one, I'll take more pictures and add to the link so condition and color can be seen.
Thanks again

I also agree that they are the same machine... but I still have a question about the motor board. In picture #5, the wood grain is clearly oak.

Does anyone know if in the circassian walnut version it was common practice to use a motor board of a wood other than that found in the rest of the cabinet, or if the motor board was just swapped out?
