Decorating Christmas Tree to Jolson, Trinity Choir, et al

Post by carylee »

Yes, we still have kids at home, age 13, 15, and 18! And we all decorated the Christmas Tree tonight to the sounds of Al Jolson, The Trinity Choir, Alma Gluck, and many more, on the Brunswick.

And the kids even LIKED it! (Caught one of them dancing to Jolson when he thought I wasn't looking!)

Sounds like a great evening! It is neat to incorporate the hobby into the celebration and think of the many unknown Christmases past where antique recordings were enjoyed.

We have been doing the same with my table top Victrola John McCormick " Adestes Fidelis" and others very nostalgic then we watched "it's a wonderful life"

Segue; Is that an Aladdin lamp in the foreground of the picture? I use to collect these lamps, I had many, and still have a few left. I need mantles so I found a place that had them I was shocked as to how much my lamps are worth. I use to use them all the time until kerosene got too expensive(45 cents to $3.00 a gallon) as a regular source of light in the winter time along with my wood stove providing heat. very pleasant evenings listening to the Victrola by the light of the lamps with snow falling softly outside my window. I will have to dig one out for Christmas eve.
