another phono in a movie

Post by Dave D »

The movie Sweet Land features a nice wooden horn Victor quite often. It is played often throughout the film. I also like old clocks and I noted that the large regulator in the train station was not running. It always bugs me to see that as I am sure it was someone's job to make sure it was wound and keeping good time.

I just bought it from Amazon. I saw the trailer and the pictures of the phonograph. It looks like a Victor.

The 1980 film "Ghost Story" also features a phonograph that is played during a seen. A Victor III is seen and heard playing "The Sweetheart Of Sigma Chi". Is that a record that comes from a later period than the Victor III ? The copy I have is on the "Bluebird" label with the bird flying on the music stave, sung by Gene Austin. I don't think it is the same recording that is played in the movie. This is one of my favorite movies, an odd cult like classic horror with some of the great old actors from the 1930's and 40's; Fred Astair, Melvin Douglas, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., John Houseman. It was this movie that first introduced me to a Victor horned phonograph. Mike
