Edison Phonographs more popular?

Post by Edisonfan »

I was browsweing the archives, and noticed that we have more Edison Phonographs, that were featured. Then any other machine. I was expecting to see more Victor, and other Disc machines, because I thought, more people owned, Victor's? I guess I was wrong. Although, there are two catagories Victor and HMV. However, there are only a few machines in those catagories.

I personally am an Edison-fan... but many many "featured phonographs" were lost when OTVMMB went down and again when the proboards version of this board went down. So, it may not be a fair sample to judge from as it only represents a couple of months.

I too am an Edison fan who contributed two phonos, both Edisons, to the featured section in a relatively short period of time. You Victor, HMV, Columbia, other guys better get moving and post something or I will post another Edison!

Seriously though I like the other makes too and they comprise about 40% of my collection with the rest being Edison. I would agree with phonophan79 that our sample size is too small at this point to indicate a general preference for Edison.

I've seen a lot more Edison stuff than anything else. Phonographs (cylinder type) appear to be much more popular amongst collectors than disc machines and Edison is the number one amongst these.

I see JohnM, Posted a machine I have never heard of, before? It's nice to see people include machines, that were not as common as Edison, Victor, HMV, or Columbia.
