CYLINDER Psycho-Phone!

Post by MicaMonster »

HEY HEY HEY! Did anyone catch that fabulous piece on the June 22nd HISTORY DETECTIVES (on PBS) program, on the PSYCHO-PHONE? I made this video many many months ago before the program was recorded, and have released it tonight, as the program has just aired earlier this evening. They did NOT show a proper playback of the machine, so I will share this with all of you fine folks. ENJOY!

This is a real novelty!
Thanks a lot for posting, do you by chance have any pictures to show?
It would be great to see it from more angles.

I can see this one being sold at Infomercials, only a bit more updated, with digital recordings and so on.
Basically, we never learn to recognize snake-oil...
But if I am to get fooled, I'd like to order this one

Hey Wyatt!,

I made it my mission last night to watch the show! I thought it was very informative. You said you were suppose to be in it as a stand in... i didn't see you so i'm thinking you were the guy asleep in the bed? ;) Again AWESOME!

A very cool machine, especially see and hear it working! This is indeed a quite strange approach and I honestly doubt that one could stay at sleep while this phonograph would start to play. Very, very, interesting! Thanks for posting!

p.s.: If anyone wants to see it, just make a double click on the video as embedding function has been disabled.

This is a hoot! This was from the golden age of " auto suggestion" and early Freudian theory ;) You could re make your life via suggestions to your sub conscious. I think Emile Coue was the one who got the most mileage out of it " every day in every way I'm getting better and better.." and all that. I suppose it's just one step from hypno therapy which is still going strong especially for weight loss and quitting tobacco. The phonograph seemed to take to this concept: Coue did that series of recordings for Columbia in the early twenties. I've never heard them .
L M Montgomery, that icon of Canadian literature, was the author of Anne of Green Gables. In her published diaries from 1913 she writes about her experiments in self improvement using auto suggestion. You were supposed to " suggest" to yourself just as you were drifting off to sleep. All she needed was a Psycho-Phone.
