I got the barrel and springs and sadly, it does not fit my XI. The assembly appears to be at least ⅛" too wide. I swapped out the winding gear but there was no difference. I did not swap out the drive gear, but they appear to be identical. Perhaps it's something to do with the width of the springs?

The barrel on my machine has a competely flat cover and a retaining ring. The one sent to me has a pattern of circles on the cover and no retaining ring.

So, I'm back to square one - if someone has a barrel like mine with 2 good springs, please contact me. We'll compare dimensions and hopefully work something out.

And in the mean time, the barrel I got is for sale at the price I paid - $25 plus shipping.

Thanks,
Kevin

The circles on the cover are just an improvement to prevent "grunting", the parts should be interchangable. The 1917 barrel will interchange with the 1921 nbarrel, which will even interchange with the 1927 barrel.

I was short retaining rings. The springs may have spread slightly in shipment. You might just put a c clamp on the bosses and give the civer plate a little squeeze.

If your machine has a "Burton" motor, as used on the VV-XIa and later this should fit.

I had actually considered sending along a complete assembled motor. If you wish, I will do that, gratis, for the part will fit.
