The same question could be asked in the UK about the HMV102 portable, which in recent years has become the machine that everyone seems to want.briankeith wrote:I have always been curious about this: Every week when checking whats hot and whats not on EBay or my local Craig's list, I find sometimes upwards of 6 or more Victor VV-50 portables listed in various conditions,,,, some rough some mint. My question is since there are so many always available for sale, why do they command such high asking prices? I purchased my VV-50 about ten years ago at a local flea market for $65.00 in near perfect condition. Just tossing this out, that's all. An estimated total of 152,600 Victrola 50's were produced.
With a production run of almost 30 years, there are always plenty of surviving examples for sale on UK eBay, yet they consistently achieve higher prices than most other portables including the HMV101.
