When it rains it pours??? I would say torrential downpour here! That IV is stunning. I notice the back-bracket also has a unique stencil and the angle of the horn elbow seems more extreme than is typical, probably 50 degrees or so.

I would not even give it more than a dusting. It's fine. A little smoke film or grunge, if there is any is not even noticeble in the pics.

Thanks Bruce. I should get an umbrella while I buy that lottery ticket.... .To answer your questions. The back bracket is (like the machine) of Canadian manufacture. Berliner had his brackets hand stenciled up here. The horn elbows in Canada are also made (as you noticed) with the horn sitting at a higher degree. In the first group of pics I took, I used a spare US elbow and the horn sits lower. I will keep the original elbow on the machine. I just finished rebuilding the reproducer and now the best part......I can enjoy it.... .

Nothing original is that nice, it's probably a Frankenphone. That nice old lady duped you. I'd sure hate to see you stuck with that albatross.

Congratulations - what a great find. With this in your living room there is no need for any other machines

Bruce, I like the way you think. Unfortunately, the living room has too many already. If your going to suggest the dining room (see pic).....sorry, I already took that over.... .

Skihawx, Yes that is a Vic 4 "cabinet that macthes" that my other Vic 4 sits on. No, I can't say the lady pulled one of those out too. If she had.....I would have had to say "no thanks. I have no room for that". Is there a member out there that believes that...??? .

I had a similar thing happen to me back in the 1980s. I had an ad running in some newspapers and received a call from a woman who had a nice Triumph Model B. When I went over to buy it, I noticed a nice original Victor 4 (about 80% as nice as yours) sitting on her TV set in the family room. I asked the woman if she was interested in selling that also. She replied that it was her sisters and that she didn't want to sell it. They inherited the machines from their father. I purchased the Triumph and left my card with the woman and told her if her sis ever decided to sell her Vic, then call me. It was a year later and the sister called me needing money to replace the transmission in her Buick Skylark. I was on the road to her place that afternoon!

Steve, your story is more like mine than you think. I had to ask the lady's why they had these machines. Their late father (a doctor) was a collector of machines. He died in 1967 and they kept some of them all this time. One never knows what's ahead.
I think George said it best....events like this really make up for all the days and month there is nothing. Now I guess it's another members turn.....I hope.
