Has anyone seen flat edge issues of this one announced?

Just curious, since we're on the subject!
Yes, my announced copy of "Preacher and the Bear" has a flat title edge. I just looked at it to verify.
What is the "take" number of your announced, flat top copy, i.e., how many dots appear after "Pat'd" on the rim?

The number "77" appears immediately after "Pat'd" but no dots. Please let us know what that means; even for a lot of record collectors, that is pretty esoteric.

My copy of 1560 has a flat edge and the number 76 after "Pat'd" - no dots. I have a beveled-edge copy which is an unannounced dub from the DD.

Edison recorded and often released several different takes of the same performance. The number of dots after "Pat'd" is the "take" number, so a different number of dots means that the recordings are different. Here for example, are takes 1 and 2 of the same cylinder:

Here are 2 copies of Preacher and the Bear. You can see the flat top copy has several dots. It is not announced and was recorded directly to cylinder. The beveled edge copy on the right has 2 dots (sorry for the bad photo) and is announced.

The number after the dots is the mold number. This was used for quality control purposes.

Well, that disproves the story I heard that only the first 50 wax Amberols were announced. I wonder how many more announcements followed beyond that 50? I also heard that only two of those 50 were reissued on Blue Amberol. I have never tried to verify that claim. The catalog number for "Aunt Dinahs Golden Wedding" is #63. Interesting however, neither of the two takes of that recording at the Cylinder Preservation and Digitization Project are announced.

Interesting indeed. I have this on wax Amberol and at least two Blue Amberols and none are announced, one is an early flat edge issue and the other I have handy is a later bevelled edge one and both appear to be the same take. Looking at Sutton's two books, there is no mention of an announced version of this. I'll keep an eye open for other copies of this as I continue digging through my huge cylinder haul from last summer. I've still got several boxes to go through and since this is a pretty common title, I'll probably find at least one or two more which I'll play to check for announcements, but I probably won't be getting to these for awhile yet.

The Golding Wedding is a beveled edge cylinder also. The Preacher and Bear is flat rim. I would also say the Aunt Dinah looks like new, with a deep blue in color. I have seen 2 of these.
